Dynamic QR Codes

Scan a code

Three months after the launch, a sticker on a shelf: which code is it, what does it do, is it still running? QR Codes → Scan a code answers that from your phone. Point it at any printed code and its details come up, with buttons to change it on the spot. It’s also where you assign blank codes. Pro

Find a code

  1. On your phone, log in to your WordPress admin and open QR Codes → Scan a code (right under All QR Codes). The screen is built for a phone: one column, big buttons.
  2. Tap Start camera and allow camera access when the browser asks. The back camera is used.
  3. Hold the printed code inside the frame. As soon as it’s read, the code’s card appears. Stop camera turns it off; Scan next code gets you ready for another.

No camera, or a damaged sticker? Open Type the code instead and enter The code or its address — the six characters (k7m2xa) or the whole printed address — then tap Find it.

Checking a code doesn’t count as a scan

The code is read on your phone, and its link is never opened: the screen only asks your store which code it is. So checking a sticker never adds a scan, never touches a cart, and never shows up in your analytics. The camera picture never leaves the phone either — it isn’t sent anywhere or stored.

That’s the difference from your phone’s own camera app, which opens the code like a customer would: a real scan, counted, with the product added to your cart.

What the card shows

On the cardWhat it tells you
Title and statusThe code’s label, and Active, Retired or Unassigned (a blank code).
What it doesThe product it adds, the page it opens, a bundle’s products — or that a blank code opens the shop until it’s assigned.
CouponThe coupon a scan applies, if any.
CampaignThe campaign it belongs to, if any.
ScansTotal scans, with unique scans next to them.
Printed asThe address inside the code.

Edit, retire, reactivate or assign

  • Edit opens the same Edit QR code dialog as on All QR Codes — coupon, label, caption, product, destination, campaign and more. Printed copies follow your changes from the next scan.
  • Retire ends the code’s offer: no coupon, and scans go to its fallback page, the product page or the shop. Reactivate brings it back.
  • Analytics opens the code’s report (store managers and administrators).
  • On a blank code, Assign this code replaces Retire: choose its product or destination, coupon, campaign and Label (where you put it). The walkthrough is on Blank codes.

Only this store’s codes

The screen recognises your store’s codes in every printed form — short links (/q/…), standard addresses (?qrcw=…) and codes printed with version 1.x. Anything else — another shop’s code, a Wi-Fi code, a menu — gets That isn’t one of this store’s QR codes. and is never opened. A code that was deleted reads as one of your addresses that no saved code uses any more.

Camera, HTTPS and browsers

  • HTTPS is required. Browsers only open the camera on secure (https://) pages. On an http:// admin you’ll see This browser can’t open the camera here. Type the code instead. — typing still works.
  • Camera permission. If you tapped “Don’t allow”, the screen says The camera is blocked. Allow camera access for this site in your browser settings, or type the code instead. Allow it in the browser’s site settings (on iPhone: Settings → Safari → Camera, or the “aA” menu → Website Settings) and reload.
  • Chrome and Android use the browser’s built-in barcode reader. Safari and iPhone use a reader bundled with the plugin. Both run on the phone; nothing is sent to a third party.
  • On a laptop or desktop, the screen works too — with a webcam, or by typing the code.

Who can use it

Anyone who can edit products (the edit_products capability) — shop managers, administrators, and custom roles such as a “product editor” for your floor staff. Pointing a code at another website, Analytics and campaigns stay with store managers and administrators.

If your Pro licence is cancelled, deactivated or moved to another site, a bookmark to Scan a code opens All QR Codes with a note instead. Every printed code keeps working in the meantime.
